Gerard Michael Collop, husband, father, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend, aged 50, left this earth unexpectedly on December 10, 2015. He was born December 6, 1965, in Livonia, MI to Patricia Ann and William Joseph Collop.
After graduating from Lakeland High School in White Lake, MI, he joined the Air Force with his final station at Patrick Air Force Base in Brevard County, FL. His civilian career began at Motorola. During this time, he met and married Tina Schrader, and they moved to Charlotte, NC in 1993. Gerard worked briefly for Page Net, then entered UNCC and received a degree in Computer Engineering. He began his 17 year career with the Microsoft family, shortly after the birth of his son, Connor. His family was made complete with the birth of his son, Cameron.
Gerard had a warm, loving heart, and cared deeply for his family and friends. He was smart, funny, creative, and successful with pretty much everything he attempted. He loved Michigan football and Red Wings hockey. Gerard was passionate about music, was a gifted guitar player and made several beautiful guitars.
Gerard was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. He leaves behind a big hole in all of our hearts.
His life was celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church 537 North Highway 16 in Denver, NC on Saturday, December 19.
In lieu of flowers, individuals may wish to make a donation to Connor and Cameron’s college fund.
