James Louis Shunkwiler, 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Stanley, NC on Saturday July 11, 2020 with his wife by his side. Jim was born October 29, 1947 in Erie, PA to the late Alvin Shunkwiler and Rose Pelato Shunkwiler. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. He put up a good fight and always managed to make people smile.
Jim served in the United States Army working on the Pershing Missile. After his service in the Army he worked for Elba Corporation in California building concrete pumps which eventually brought him to Charlotte, NC. He then spent the rest of his career working in the Steel Fabrication business.
Jim will be remembered for his love of being outside whether it was boating, fishing or working in the yard. He also enjoyed travelling and cooking for his friends.
Jim is survived by his wife Kristie of Stanley, NC; sons David Shunkwiler , Darren Shunkwiler and Craig Shunkwiler all of Waxhaw. Brothers Robert and his wife Kris Shunkwiler of Mayer, AZ and Tom Shunkwiler of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; sister Roseann Bates of Lake Havasu City, AZ. Grandchildren Reed and Quinn Shunkwiler of Waxhaw.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church 537 North Highway 16 (Business) Denver, NC. 28037. Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard.
