Donald W. Gibson

Donald W. Gibson, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on 09/22/24 after a prolonged illness. Born on 02/01/31 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, he married the love of his life, Elaine E. Olejnik and they enjoyed 71 wonderful years. Donald is survived by his wife, three children, Renee Muellenbach (Thomas), Cynthia Gibson-Horn (Jerome), and Jon Gibson (Monica). He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren Chris and Alicia Muellenbach, Kristin Detrick, Gregory Horn, Mallory Schmidt, Morgan Fischer, Mitchel Gibson, Molly Jimenez, and Nile Schnaden. Along with four great-grandchildren, Don is survived by his brother James Gibson (Phyllis) and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph J. Gibson and Elsie C. Wolf, his brother Joseph P. Gibson (Rosemary) and mother-in-law Edna B. Kossel.

A cherished member of the community and devoted family man, Don will be remembered for his amazing sparkling blue eyes and laugh, engaging and mischievous storytelling, singing, playing guitar and banjo into his 90’s, and enlivening conversations. A true patriotic Veteran, Donald served as a Marine in the Korean War and was proud to be a Marine till the end. A roofing contractor, he owned Gibson Bros. Roofing INC for 42 years. He loved to fish, hunt, golf, and woodwork. He sang in the church choir, barbershop chorus and quartets for 42 years.

He always accepted what God gave him with grace and a positive outlook. The funeral will be held on October 21, 2024, 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Denver, NC., internment in Oshkosh, WI. at a later date.
