Martin Lee Huntsberger

Martin Lee Huntsberger (“Lee”), 81, passed away peacefully at home in Denver, NC, on March 12, 2025. Born in November 1943 in Philadelphia, PA, he grew up in Langhorne, PA, where he became an Eagle Scout and graduated from Neshaminy High School before earning a business degree from Rider College.  He was the only child of Esther Mae Cowan and John Donald Huntsberger.

A man of many talents, Lee built a successful career in corporate leadership before embracing his entrepreneurial spirit. Alongside his beloved wife, Elaine, he founded Eagle Hill, a construction company in Montrose, PA, which they ran together for 18 years. A true family business, their children—and even their friends—played a role over the years. Lee also served as President of the Montrose Chamber of Commerce. In 2002, he and Elaine sold the business and retired to the South, where they embarked on new adventures together.

Even in retirement, Lee remained deeply engaged in his passions and community. He volunteered for the Crystal Bay Homeowners Association, helped build a community walking trail, and dedicated time to the Foothills Golden Retriever Association. Lee was an active member of the Methodist Church, he also worked at Skippers Marina and taught himself CAD, designing homes—including his own in South Carolina.

Above all, Lee’s greatest love was Elaine, his high school sweetheart and wife of 61 years. Their marriage was a true partnership, built on love, hard work, and shared adventures. Together, they created a close-knit family, raising their four children, Michael Lee (Jennifer Volpato-Huntsberger), Daniel Scott (Kristi), Doreen H. McCormick (Jan), and Denise Huntsberger (Jason Scott). Lee was a proud grandfather to Andrew, Anna Maria, Bryce, Aubrey, Anna Kathryn, and Brady, cherishing every moment with them.

Lee had a lifelong love for cars and racing, passions he eagerly shared with his children and grandchildren. A skilled builder and problem solver, he enjoyed everything from designing homes to fixing engines. A true sportsman, he found joy in hunting, fishing, and time spent at his mountain cabin. He and Elaine also maintained a small farm, caring for horses, sheep, chickens, goats, and their cherished golden retrievers—beloved companions for over 60 years.

Known for his generosity, strong work ethic, and unwavering support of family, Lee embodied the ideals of an Eagle Scout throughout his life. His wisdom and humor live on in the lessons he shared, including his favorite reminders: “Actions speak louder than words” and “Do it right the first time—it takes longer to do it again.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Foothills Golden Retriever Rescue in Lee’s honor.

I am so very sorry to hear of Uncle Lee’s passing. I am forever grateful for all of my childhood memories including my childhood family dog that we had growing up, Eagle Hills Ray of Hope. From visits to the farm, skiing, fishing, trips to the mountains, spot lighting for deer, boating, and so much more. Praying for the entire family. Forever in my heart as my God Father and who I am named after!
    Love,

Where do I begin? I’ve known Lee since I was eighteen years old. Introduced to me by my then boyfriend who later became my husband. The three of us were inseparable until Lee introduced us to Elaine, later to become his wife. My husband, Lee, and Elaine traveled together, and once had a most fun and memorable trip to a rustic lake resort in far backwoods Maine. Later in my life Lee and Elaine rescued me from a bad situation in upstate New York, driving all night to get me and then to return home to go to work in the morning. They invited me into their home while I struggled to get back on my feet. Lee was so instrumental in comforting me with music (Peter, Paul, and Mary) and long conversations. They took me off to their new mountain cabin and introduced me to fun in the snow on snowmobiles. Because of them I met my present husband, and we are now married over 50 years. When they moved north to Montrose, we visited with them often and bought property just 4 miles down the road from their home. Our friendship grew closer over the years as we spent weekends and vacations at our home there. We bought our first Golden Retriever from them. Our kids played with their kids. When they moved to SC we vacationed with them there. Went to their kids’ weddings, they came to our kids’ weddings. A long and beautiful friendship. My heart is sad, and my heart hurts for Elaine and her family. God bless you my friend, I shall miss you.
    Love, Jackie & Skipper
