It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Craig Steven Baker, age 50, of Denver, North Carolina, on February 21, 2025. Born in Salisbury, North Carolina, on July 19, 1974, Craig was a loving husband, devoted father, son, and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness and dedication.
Craig passed peacefully with his wife, Shannon LeeAnn Baker (Kulik), and daughters, Alexis Morgan Baker and Ashley Nicole Baker, by his side, listening to some of his favorite music — a moment that captured his love for family and the things that brought him joy.
Craig is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Shannon LeeAnn Baker (Kulik); his cherished daughters, Alexis Morgan Baker and Ashley Nicole Baker; his father, Reid Baker (Diana) of Salisbury, North Carolina; and his in-laws, John (Jack) and Cheryl Kulik of Mooresville, North Carolina. He also leaves behind his two treasured dogs, Diamond and Wickett. Craig was predeceased by his mother, Patricia Johnson (Rufty), and his grandparents, Henry Rufty and Marie Rufty (Trexler).
Craig was a dedicated and loving father who gave countless hours to support his daughters. He proudly served as a softball coach for both Alexis and Ashley at the East Lincoln Optimist Club for several years, sharing his passion for the game and helping shape their love for sports. Craig also supported his daughters in their marching band and colorguard careers by driving the semi-truck to competitions for the North Lincoln Band of Knights, where Ashley is currently a member, and Alexis is an alumna.
An avid outdoorsman and hunter, Craig loved spending time in nature, whether it was hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying the outdoors. His deep connection with the natural world was an important part of his life, and it was a passion he enjoyed sharing with others.
In addition to his family involvement, Craig was a former volunteer firefighter, having served both the Denver Fire Department and the Shepherds Fire Department. His selfless dedication to helping others was a cornerstone of his character, and his legacy of service will be remembered by all who knew him.
Craig worked for many years at the Mecklenburg EMS Agency (MEDIC), where he contributed to the logistics team, ensuring that essential equipment and resources were always available. His dedication to supporting emergency services mirrored the commitment to helping others that ran throughout his life. His wife, Shannon, also worked as a paramedic at MEDIC, and together they shared a passion for serving their community.
Craig was also an organ donor, continuing his legacy of giving by helping others in need even after his passing.
Known for his warm heart, unwavering loyalty, and sense of humor, Craig could walk into a room knowing no one and walk out knowing everyone. His infectious personality and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. He will be missed deeply by his family, friends, and community. His love for life, his family, and his community will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A Celebration of Craig’s life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to https://gofund.me/be448ef5 to assist with his daughters’ college educations, something that was of great importance to Craig.
