Gary Squire Ellsworth

Gary Squire Ellsworth was born on March 14, 1948, in Boise, Idaho, to Lew and Ruth Ellsworth. He grew up alongside his older brother, Lynn, and at a young age, the family moved to Alaska, where his adventurous spirit began to take shape.

Gary loved his family above all else. He also had a passion for golf, fishing, and hunting, and as the years went by, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures, a sweet treat and a good nap. His love for adventure led to some of his most cherished experiences, including hunting a Kodiak brown bear in Alaska, a memorable trip to Montana with his boys, and fulfilling a lifelong dream of attending the Masters golf tournament with Gary Jr. and Ryan in 2024.

At 29, Gary moved to California to work in sales for Sea Land. While living in Huntington Beach, he could often be found by the pool, playing with an adorable little girl—perhaps as a way to catch the attention of her mother and it worked! On August 27, 1980, he married that beautiful woman, Julie, and in doing so, chose that little girl, Nicole, as his own daughter.

In January 1981, the family moved to Seattle, where Gary Jr. and Ryan were born, making their family complete. Over the years, Gary’s career led them on many adventures—from Washington to North Carolina, then to New Jersey, a few years of retirement in Arizona, and South Carolina, before eventually settling in Denver, NC (with a brief detour in Raleigh, of course).

Gary’s greatest accomplishments were the family he built and cherished. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Julie, his three children, Nicole (Greg), Gary Jr. (Beth), and Ryan (Kari), and seven beloved grandchildren: Derrick, Gabby, Boone, Tenley, Willa, Graham, and Peyton.

He will be deeply missed every single day.
