Paul C. Zemenz, 72 of Sherrills Ford, NC died peacefully at home on June 14, 2017. He is predeceased by his parents, Emily and Carl Zemenz of Liverpool. He was born in Syracuse, NY and raised in Liverpool, NY. Much of his early life was spent in the Adirondacks where he graduated from the Ranger School at Wanakena in 1965. He continued on as an instructor and also spent time as an Adirondack guide. Upon returning to Syracuse he taught at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. In 1973 Paul joined the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department,holding all civil service ranks and retiring as the Major in 2001. While with the department, Paul was a founding member of it’s helicopter program, was the Patrol Commander, and later had the entire Police Department, then known as the Criminal Division,under his command. Paul had the ability to both command and hold the respect of everyone in the department.
After retirement, he and his wife relocated to Sherrills Ford, NC where he enjoyed everything southern. After having spent 17 years refurbishing a 200 year old farmhouse in New York, he was able to relax and enjoy life. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 35 years, Danielle; his daughter, Alyce Zemenz Cummings, and his brother Donald Zemenz as well as several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
A memorial service was held in Denver, NC and another will be held August 16th at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Manlius, NY at 6:30PM. Friends can offer condolences at the Church from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Donations can be made to the Rescue Mission, Syracuse, NY
