Richard Kelly Hughes, 77 years young, passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 8th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Kelly was born on May 29th, 1946 to James Oliver Hughes and Bernice Nolen Hughes in Griffin, GA. Kelly graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1964.
Kelly married Jackie Parsons in February of 1975 and they soon began building a full and rich life together along with their son, Tony. Kelly was a beloved husband & father, whose dry sense of humor could carry an entire room. He smiled easily and freely, and had an immense passion for his family and friends. His favorite pastimes included cooking and spending time with his closest friends at his home, making time for hunting trips, and driving to Cherry Grove Beach, SC to fish off the Sea Cabins pier every October, where he would make friendships that would carry through to this day.
Over the years, Kelly worked as a boiler technician for General Energy in Charlotte, before retiring and spending his retirement years farming, and even more fishing, with his friend Louis at the Llama Lakes tomato farm.
Kelly is survived by his wife Jackie, and his son Tony, his sister Karen and his brother Gene.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 15, 2024 at from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at The Good Samaritan Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:00PM.
