Susan Diane Comstock Winder

Susan Diane (Comstock) Winder on March 13, 2025, quietly took the hand of Jesus with her family by her side in Denver, NC. Sue was born on April 7, 1943 in Lenawee County, MI where she resided her entire life.

Graduating from Clinton High School in 1961, she went on to earn her Masters in Education from Eastern Michigan University. She taught in the Clinton school district until the family moved to the Irish Hills, where she spent the rest of her 28-year teaching career at Onsted Elementary. Educating children was a profession she was passionate about and held in high regard, contributing to program development so all kids had an opportunity to succeed. Sue enjoyed a variety of sports but found her love of golf as an adult and mastered the game, even scoring a hole in one! She cherished times with her family and close friends, lake living (especially at the Chicaugon Lake cabin in the U.P.), playing board games and cards, quilting and sewing, and traveling with her husband.

She was Susie Q to her husband of nearly 65 years, Bruce Winder from Clinton/Onsted; Mom to Dawn (Stephen) Ross of Saginaw, Bryan (Tina) Winder of Adrian, Deanna (Jay) Bradish of Denver, NC, and Jan Winder of Onsted; Grandma to nine grandchildren and their spouses across various states; Great G’ma to ten great grandchildren; sister to Roberta/Bobbi (William) Ruber of Brooklyn, with two nephews, seven great nieces and nephews and their families; step-siblings and their families: Mike Sanderson of Palm City, FL, Barbara (Don) Harris of Niles, MI, Roberta (Ernie) Gowen of Brooklyn, and William (Brenda) Sanderson of Adrian. We will have a small family gathering back home in late Spring/early Summer.

A Go Fund Me has been established to go towards Onsted Elementary teacher and student needs in Sue’s name. https://gofund.me/debc8295

Sorry for your loss. I grew up next door to Bruce’s parents. Bill and Julie Winter. So many good memories. I remember watching Bruce and Sue kids a couple of times. Those were great times back then. Sounded like she led a good life. Have a blessed day. Deborah Grossman from Clinton, Michigan.

Mrs. Winder was my 3rd grade teacher. She was one of the best teachers Onsted had. My condolences to the family!

Sorry for your loss. She was my kindergarten teacher, then my good friend’s Mom as I grew up. Always fun to go to the Winder house as she made me feel like I belonged. My condolences and prayers for the entire family.
