Valerie Frances Pierson
Valerie Frances Pierson, 69, passed away peacefully at her home on January 19, 2025, surrounded by love and comfort.
Born on January 4, 1956, in Montreal, Canada, to Joseph William Long and Muriel Lillian Long, Valerie grew up with a strong sense of integrity and compassion that shaped her life. She attended Brookfield High School, received her Secretarial certification from The School of Commerce in 1973, and then began her career in the banking industry in Ottawa, Ontario.
In 1980, Valerie and her two children moved west to Alberta, Canada, where she continued her banking career, eventually rising to the role of branch manager. After a brief return to Ontario, she relocated to Texas, where she embarked on a successful career in the mortgage industry, which later brought her to Charlotte, North Carolina. Valerie owned and operated her own mortgage company for many years, demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen.
Later in life, Valerie pursued her deep-seated love for horses, taking over and running the Latta Equestrian Center for over a decade. It was here that she truly thrived, sharing her passion for horses and western riding while touching countless lives in the community.
Valerie is lovingly remembered by her children, Kimberley Ross (spouse Darel Ross) and James Brown (spouse Tonya Alexander Brown); her grandchildren, Kayla Hudson (spouse Colton Hudson), Savannah Brown, Trey Ross, Danielle Brown, Evan Brown, Dylan Brown, and Stella Ross; and her great-grandchildren, Brinley Hudson, Corbin Hudson, and Madilyn Hudson.
She is also survived by her brother, Graham Long (spouse Sylvia Long); her sister, Deborah McEwen (spouse Lynn McEwen); her best friend since middle school, Ginger Keitel (spouse Perry Keitel); her goddaughter and namesake, Valerie Meech; her former spouse, Gary Pierson; and her former daughter-in-law, Helena Brown. Valerie also cherished her nieces and nephews, who held a special place in her heart.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate hospice team from VIA Health Partners for their care and support during Valerie’s final days.
